Sherpa’s Racing Roadrunner

Hey, folks! Today, we’re thrilled to share the story behind our collaboration with Sherpa Equipment Company. If you aren’t familiar with Sherpa, they specialize in making adventure mods for vehicles and are very well known for their roof rack systems. Recently, they gave us the opportunity to create a custom wrap for their racing 4Runner, and we couldn’t have been more stoked to be part of this project!

For a little bit of background, Pureblind met Sherpa at the Overland Expo Mountain West in 2022 through a mutual friend and the owner of Mountain Yotas. Right off the bat they could tell that they would work well together, as both companies share the same values, creativity, and adventurous spirit.

Before starting the design, Nick, the owner of Pureblind, went to Sherpa’s state-of-the-art facility in Berthoud, Colorado. Here, he gained a genuine understanding of their brand and immersed himself in their vision. Just like how a good tattoo artist tries to understand their client before they start working on their artwork, Nick likes to take the time to get to know his clients and get a sense of their style and personality before making his designs. Getting a hands-on look at how the client operates, what their design goals are, and how the vehicle itself is configured all comes into play when creating a custom wrap.

Using his expert skills in Adobe Illustrator, Nick hand drew the wrap from scratch on a wacom cintiq tablet. Creating digital art this way allows him to capture the hand-drawn look of traditional art, but with all of the benefits of vector artwork. This wrap features the same vibrant yellow and black color scheme as the original wrap on they had, but now with a dominant Roadrunner taking center stage. During the design process, Nick made a deliberate decision to emphasize the Roadrunner and let it become the focal point. With the hood and back of the vehicle not being a major factor, he had to focus most of his attention on the sides. The result is a wrap that is energetic, stylized and captures the spirit of adventure, staying true to Sherpa’s brand identity while incorporating Nick’s artistic style. We are super happy with how this wrap turned out!

What makes this project even more special is the element of surprise. We kept this project under wraps until Sherpa unveiled it at King of the Hammers. It was super hard not to share it, but we did everything we could to keep it top secret! Now that the wrap has been released, this one of a kind 4Runner will also be making appearances at various expos throughout the season, not only showcasing all of the crazy modifications that they have done to it, but the wrap itself.

At Pureblind, we believe in the power of custom artwork and the joy it brings to both creators and admirers. We love the excitement of designing unique wraps that make vehicles come alive. Whether you’re an individual looking to express your personal style or a business seeking to make a statement, we’re here to help bring your vision to life.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Pureblind crew as we continue to push the boundaries of design and embark on thrilling projects. We’re grateful to have you alongside us on this incredible journey!

An Amazing Project – Backwoods Adventure Mods and Mountain Yotas!

At Pureblind, we pride ourselves on being a high-end vehicle wrap shop that specializes in creating artistic designs for our clients. Our talented designers have won awards for their work, and we have a world-class print production facility equipped with state-of-the-art printers and equipment.

That means every wrap we create is just about as good as it gets.

Backwoods Adventure ModsWhen we met the Backwoods Adventure Mods team at Overland Expo Mountain West through our friend Dwight Houser, owner of Mountain Yotas, we were excited to work with them. Backwoods is a great company based out of Arkansas that focuses on making bumpers and accessories for off-road style vehicles. They had a vision to make one of the most badass Toyota Tacomas around, and we were thrilled to be a part of it!

Mountain Yotas did the build on the vehicle, adding suspension, wheels, tires, and an aggressive look, while we designed, printed, and installed the vehicle wrap. We have done several wraps for Mountain Yotas, including Dwight’s truck, which is a custom art wrap with a skull-faced astronaut battling “UFTs” (unidentified flying tires). That truck was featured in the Backwoods booth at Overland Expo Mountain West in 2022, and was part of the reason Backwoods wanted to go with Pureblind for their wrap. They saw how much attention Dwight’s truck got, and they knew they had to have something with a similar level of detail, artistic vision, and install quality.

Ceramic CoatingThe Backwoods wrap features a wild boar romping through the mud and is printed in greyscale with a lot of grit and power. It’s a show-stopper, and we are super happy with how it turned out! The designer who worked on this project is our owner, Nick Hughes, who has a diverse background in art, specifically digital art. It’s his passion for art that led him to create Pureblind in the first place. While Nick is a busy guy, he felt strongly about this project and was eager to take it on. His first attempt at the design was very similar, but instead of a Wild Boar he made it a Bear. The Backwoods guys loved the design, but thought it would be awesome to make it a Wild Boar as a nod to their roots in Arkansas. Nick was more than happy to make that change, and the end result is a vehicle wrap that perfectly fits the Backwoods brand and vision.

Not only did we wrap the truck, but we also applied a nano-ceramic coating that provides excellent UV protection and makes the truck essentially maintenance-free. The coating is a durable Ceramic Pro ceramic coating, which was also installed by our talented team. Now that is ceramic coated the Backwoods team can go out mudding and literally spray it off with a garden hose. Not to mention, the wrap itself will last significantly longer now that it has a ceramic coating.

The reaction to this truck wrap has been incredible, and it’s a great example of what we can do at Pureblind. It’s going to be at several major off-roading events scattered throughout the country as a main attraction to the Backwoods booth.

A Mini-Truck GiftIn fact, the Backwoods team was so pleased with the result that they decided to commission a 1:10 scale RC truck that was an exact replica of their custom Tacoma. We also designed, printed, and installed the mini-truck, which was given to the founder of Backwoods as a Christmas gift. It’s so accurate that they actually had a custom topper made for the mini-truck to match the exact topper on their real truck!

We’re extremely proud of the work we did for Backwoods Adventure Mods. The custom Tacoma we wrapped with the wild boar design turned out to be a true showstopper that perfectly captures the brand’s adventurous spirit. We’re honored to have worked with Mo and Ty, the guys behind Backwoods. They were a pleasure to work with and honestly some of the nicest guys we have ever done work for. The entire project was a collaboration between some of the best names in the off-road industry, including Mountain Yotas, who did the build on the truck. It’s always an exciting challenge to create a wrap that fits a client’s brand without any constraints, and we’re glad we were able to exceed their expectations. Our top-notch design, printing, and installation teams all came together to create a wrap that’s truly a work of art.

We’re excited to see where Backwoods takes their Tacoma next and can’t wait to be a part of their next big project!
